Power Station NE, located in Waterford, CT, was founded in 1995, based on the exact design and acoustics of the original Power Station in New York City, which was designed and built in 1976. Power Station was one of the most awarded recording studios in history, thanks to an acoustical design that contributed to hundreds of Gold and Platinum records.
At the center of the 2017 expansion of Power Station New England is the refurbished main recording space with signature 35-foot dome, plus four isolation spaces and the historic control room, which now features a vintage Neve 8068 MkII console. The console was restored to its original 1979 glory by Vintage King Audio and console legend Ed Evans, who worked at the original Power Station in NYC. The Neve console was originally installed at Electric Lady Studio in NYC in 1979, later located at Record Plant in NYC, and most recently at Pachyderm Studios in Minnesota. The console played a role in historic recordings by such artists as John Lennon, AC/DC, Van Halen, and Nirvana.
Equipment incorporated into the 2017 expansion of Power Station New England is a prized collection of vintage and new gear. Highlights include restored Studer A-800 analog multitrack tape machines alongside Pro Tools 56-channel HD-X; Big Red, Genelec, ProAc, and Yamaha NS-10 monitors; API 3124, Mercury m72, Chandler TG-2, and Shadow Hills mic pre’s; vintage Teletronix LA-2A, Urei 1176’s and LA-3a’s, dbx 160; custom original Power Station Pultec’s and Massenburg processors; original EMT 140 plate, Lexicon and Yamaha delays; and an extensive collection of vintage and current microphones by Neumann, AKG, Royer and Sennheiser, among others.
